It sounds like the start of a joke, and some may think it is. But two star players and an assistant coach are out for the season, and one may be out forever. It has been another dramatic weekend in the NFL (shocker), which seems to be the theme as of late. This time we only have one scandal, but still, a lot of change is about to happen.
Odell Beckham Jr., star Giants receiver, suffered a season ending ankle injury during Sunday’s loss to the Chargers. He was carted off the field with a towel over his face, in obvious pain and anguish. Beckham had five catches for 97 yards and a score before the injury. It was a pretty brutal looking injury which was diagnosed as a fractured ankle and will require surgery. The Giants are pretty thin in the wide receiver department, with four receivers injured. Shortly after this, Chad Johnson and Terrell Owens tweeted the Giants and offered their services. Maybe they’ll come out of retirement? TBD
The second superstar to suffer a season ending injury is Houston Texans’ defensive end JJ Watt is out for the season with a tibial plateau fracture in the team’s 42-34 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. Watt fell to the ground while engaged in a block on the Chiefs’ opening drive. He was eventually taken to a hospital in an ambulance. JJ Watt is a force to be reckoned with on and off the field. He took to Twitter early Monday morning to apologize to his teammates and the city. Watt raised over $37 million for relief in the wake of hurricane Harvey.
After two superstars go down, the next story get a little weird. Miami Dolphins offensive line coach Chris Foerster resigned Monday morning after a video of him snorting white powder off of a table surfaced after first circulating on Reddit. There are a lot of unanswered questions about this NSFW video, but it seems Foerster was working for an NFL team at the time. The Dolphins have responded to the video: “We were made aware of the video late last night and have no tolerance for this behavior,…after speaking with Chris this morning, he accepted full responsibility and we accepted his resignation effective immediately. Although Chris is no longer with the organization, we will work with him to get the help he needs during this time.” (Bleacher Report).
